Engineering Ethics- why is it necessary? Explain real life example of ethics issues in engineering.

            Engineering come from the Latin word which is ingenium (cleverness) and ingeniare (device) and which are applied in scientific, economic, and practical knowledge in order to design or invent it. While ethics comes from Greek word, etikos / ethos which means custom, habit and sometimes also known as moral philosophy that involves systematizing, defending and recommending concept what is right and what is wrong. Engineering ethics is one of the field that applied ethics and the system of the moral principles that apply to the practice of engineering. The field examines and sets the obligations by engineers to society, to their clients.

            Engineering ethics is necessary in order to become a professional engineer. Not all engineers have a good intention. For example, they are certain engineers who are doing their job just for money and taking bribe. The common cases are they used the low quality things to build the building but demand it is as high quality things and put the price higher than the real one. But, there also people who are diligently doing his/her work. They try their best to do the work that had been trusted to them. Visiting the site frequently, looking for the best quality things at the low price. This is the moral that should have in each engineer.

            Nowadays, in the real life, engineers are responsible for the people safety, awareness toward environment, pollution, invented something that gave benefit for human. There are few examples of ethics issues in engineering.. When it comes to buildings, there are several ethics that should be followed. For example, engineers have to make sure that all the specification which are specified by architect are followed, engineers also have to do the calculation accurately to prevent collapsing like happened to infamous of Tacoma Narrows Bridge. In the medication world, engineers have to make sure the medicine is safe to eat and do not give harm to our body because engineering is the future of medicine.

In conclusion, engineers become the most important person when it comes to ethics. Without engineers, people did not know whether the building is safe to live, the food or medicine save to eat. Study the ethics can cause someone to think about other people and not being selfish.
