The story is about five-and-twenty soldier who had been made out of the same old tin spoons. They wore splendid uniform, red and blue. A little boy had receive them as his birthday present. they were placed on the table in the room full of playthings. One of the five-and-twenty tin soldier had only one firmed leg because there was enough of old tin spoons to melt him down. The one leg tin soldier was fallen in love a little lady which was placed in the beautiful paper castle just in front of him. The little lady danced with one of her leg lifted up just like the one leg tin soldier. Unfortunately, a goblin do not like the one leg tin soldier, so the goblin put the him near the window. The tin soldier than flew out of the window down to the third story into the street beneath. There was also heavily rain fall at that time. By the time the little boy and the servant maid searched for him, they could not found him even though he was really to close to them once. Then, two little boys found him and sailed him down the gutter by using the paper boat they had made. The one leg tin soldier met up with the rat in the tunnel. The rat wanted to bite him as he did not pay for the toll. However, he only kept silent until he was ate by big fish. He still remained silent in the big fish stomach. Fortunately, the big fish was caught, and the servant maid found him inside the big fish stomach. Then, the maid placed him besides the little lady. The one leg tin soldier really happy as they could see each other again. However, one little boy had threw him inside the stove. The one leg tin soldier started to melt. As he was melted, he never kept his eyes off from the little lady. Suddenly, the wind flew the little lady into the stove too and she was burnt. The one leg tin soldier also melted. The next morning, the maid found the little tin heart shape while cleaning the ashes. The little lady had nothing left but the tinsel rose which was burnt black as a cider.
