The Stranger Who Changed My Life: A Short Love Story

In the short story “The Stranger Who Change My Life,” author Joni Rodgers (the author of the bestselling memoir Bald in the Land of Big Hair) gently presents a party girl that meets her match as she passes through Montana with a traveling show. On the first time they met, she saw him as one big and bearlike man in an Irish wool sweater and gaiters. He, the one she called as bear cherish her the whole day on the first day they meet with various topic and things that they shared it only between them. As time flies so fast, they have to separated back to their on way and it was the last moment they see each other. After a few days, in a bar, when she busies doing her things, she heard the bear’s distinctive baritone laughter from somewhere in the audience. After the show, he was waiting for her by the door. She didn’t bother asking him how he’d gotten there. He also didn’t bother asking her where she wanted to go. She  can’t endorse the idea of love at first sight, but maybe that are the moments when God or fate or some cosmic sense of humor rolls the eyes at those two stammering human hearts. A few months later, she married the bear in a meadow above his tiny cabin in the Bridger Mountains. Thanks to God because their marriage last for 30 years until now. Currently, they live happily with their children, the girl named Jerusha, and the boy, Malachi Blackstone (named after his great-grandfather and an island in Chesapeake Bay).
